One in seven schoolgirls admits the cervical cancer jab could lead to them becoming more promiscuous, a survey has found.

They say they are more likely to take sexual risks in future because they are protected against the sexually transmitted HPV virus, which causes 70 per cent of cervical tumours.

Family groups expressed concern that the nationwide vaccination programme for 12 to 18-year-olds will lead to a rise in sexual infections because girls may think it protects them against all diseases.

There were also fears it would lead to a rise in the rate of teenage pregnancy – already the highest in Western Europe.

Okay… For starters, a rise in unprotected sex is not the same as a rise in promiscuity. In human sexual behavior, promiscuity denotes casual sex with many partners.

These girls didn’t say they were going to become fast and loose (pun not intended) with their sexual behavior; they said they were more likely to take more risks (ie. unsafe sex). Use of the word “promiscuous” is just fear mongering by the journalist and survey.

This survey doesn’t say the HPV vaccine is going to turn a generation of little girls into sluts. It says that if we don’t educate them on the importance of safe sex, there will be a problem.

Protecting your kids early against sexual diseases is not going to lead them to earlier sexual acts. The amount of resistance to this HPV vaccine is shocking. It is something that can protect your daughters, why would you be adverse to it?

The findings of this study can be easily corrected with good education and by talking to the girls who are likely to engage in risky behavior. Correcting inappropriate use of the word promiscuous to cause fear will be a little more difficult.

One Response to “Cancer Jab May Make us More Promiscuous Say 1 in 7 Girls”

What this article doesn’t mention is that the drug companies (Merck especially) are making HUGE profits from people’s paranoia. The inoculation is almost useless. It protects only a against a few strains of HPV that cause cancer; it is useless against the rest. Moreover, contracting HPV does not automatically lead to cervical cancer; it is just one risk. As there are other STDs against which women need protection, sexually active girls and women can care for themselves much more efficiently (and safely) with annual pap smears. So, if a girl or woman looks after her sexual health properly, the inoculation is unnecessary. You’re right about education. That’s the key, not the jab. The drug companies are selling something barely more useful than snake oil. I refuse to buy.
