One in seven schoolgirls admits the cervical cancer jab could lead to them becoming more promiscuous, a survey has found.

They say they are more likely to take sexual risks in future because they are protected against the sexually transmitted HPV virus, which causes 70 per cent of cervical tumours.

Family groups expressed concern that the nationwide vaccination programme for 12 to 18-year-olds will lead to a rise in sexual infections because girls may think it protects them against all diseases.

There were also fears it would lead to a rise in the rate of teenage pregnancy – already the highest in Western Europe.

PSA: Cell Phones Cause Cancer… Again

A groundbreaking, $30 million study into cell phones has found a link between long term use and brain tumors.

The World Health Organization is about to reveal that its decade-long investigation has found the devices can lead to cancer — and the internationally-respected body will soon issue a public health message with its findings, London’s Daily Telegraph reported today.

The conclusion goes against years of assurances by cell phone companies and scientists that cell phone use is safe.

First, they didn’t cause cancer; then they did cause cancer. Once again they didn’t cause cancer and now, here we are again, they do cause cancer.

A newborn girl was taken into care because it was feared she would pile on excessive weight in the care of her obese parents.

The child was removed from her mother within hours of being born earlier this week and has been placed with a foster family.

Her parents, who are both clinically obese, have already had two children taken into care amid concerns about the youngsters’ weight.

Can you say Nanny State!? I am not even sure where to begin when it comes to this story… I cannot believe this is a legitimate reason to place a child in foster care.

A Vancouver area father has been found guilty of negligence causing bodily harm after botching a home circumcision attempt on his four-year-old son as part of a spiritual quest to make things right with God.

The bizarre case centred on a battle over the religious freedoms of the former Jehovah’s Witness, who was trying to follow a literal interpretation of the Bible after a series of misfortunes hit his family.

I have no snide remarks, no sarcasm, and no jokes for this story… This is truly very sad and disturbing.

Obvious: Bracelets Cannot Improve Health

Copper and magnetic bracelets worn by thousands to alleviate arthritis are useless, researchers claim.

The trial – the first scientifically-based study of its kind – raises doubts over the multimillion-pound alternative pain therapy industry.

It was the first of it’s kind because it was unnecessary… They are bloody bracelets… Kind of obvious that they won’t have any health benefits.

Magnetic therapy and copper replacement are said to help a variety of ailments, including chronic joint pain caused by osteoarthritis and other musculoskeletal disorders.

Manufacturers suggest the condition can be alleviated by re-balancing the body’s magnetic field or topping up depleted copper levels though the skin.

American Smokers Fight Back

From West Virginia to the West Coast, smokers are trying to fend off further restrictions on their habit, and local officials are starting to listen.

In some cases, smoking bans have even been rescinded or postponed – including in the city of Spokane.

Opponents of smoking restrictions say these rollbacks are largely driven by economic woe, with local governments wary of imposing new costs or business burdens on restaurants and bars that may already be struggling.

“The economy is in a slump, and these bans almost always hurt the shot-and-beer-type bars and some restaurants,” said Gary Nolan, U.S. regional director of the Citizens Freedom Alliance, which opposes laws that restrict smoking.

The Syrian Masturbation Epidemic

It started with a post in Arabic a little over a month ago by a blogger named Fadal, he complained that masturbation in Syria has “spread among the youths like wildfire,” and he wants to start a campaign to end the “secret habit.”

His comments prompted a snarky response from Abufares, one of Syria’s leading bloggers, who called for a countercampaign culminating in an “unprecedented Syrian Orgasm against absurdity, hypocrisy, and sanctimony.”

“Unprecedented Syrian Orgasm”… Sounds like fun!

Then things got weird….

Yazan Badran, who blogs from Latakia in northern Syria, suggested observing a week of moral decay, to include drugs, porn, and eating publicly on Ramadan.

Your Doctor Recommended What?

BOGUS doctors offering “quack” therapy will face jail and massive fines under new laws proposed by Health Minister John Hill.

Mr Hill today announced the State Government would adopt the recommendations of a parliamentary committee examined therapies being offered by unregistered doctors.

These included offering to cure cancer through the use of “organic coffee enemas” and another practitioner who claimed to be able to cure cancer through “vaginal blowing”.

Organic Coffee Enemas? Vaginal Blowing? Hold on a second now… That sounds perfectly legitimate. How dare Mr. Hill slander these doctors and call them quacks!

U.S. states whose residents have more conservative religious beliefs on average tend to have higher rates of teenagers giving birth, a new study suggests.

The relationship could be due to the fact that communities with such religious beliefs (a literal interpretation of the Bible, for instance) may frown upon contraception, researchers say. If that same culture isn’t successfully discouraging teen sex, the pregnancy and birth rates rise.

It could also be due to Abstinence Only sexual “education” because we all know kids do what they’re told. It’s genius really; tell kids not to have sex, don’t tell them about condoms and other safe sex methods, assume they are going to listen to you about the not having sex part.

Domestic Abuse is a Pre-Existing Condition

Calling attention to how broadly insurers interpret the term to maximize profits. It turns out that in eight states, plus the District of Columbia, getting beaten up by your spouse is a pre-existing condition.

Under the cold logic of the insurance industry, it makes perfect sense: If you are in a marriage with someone who has beaten you in the past, you’re more likely to get beaten again than the average person and are therefore more expensive to insure.

In human terms, it’s a second punishment for a victim of domestic violence.
